Notes: #58 (Senyū-ji (仙遊寺)): No. 58 on the Shikoku pilgrimage. At 1,300 feet above sea level, Senyu-ji requires quite a climb. Arriving at the temple, the complex is small, however, the path leads on. Behind the temple many Buddhist statues adorn the green woodland trail (as depicted) - up to an area of wide expansive views across Imabari and the Seto-Inland Sea.
Eighty-Eight Sacred Places in Shikoku: Shunichi Kadowaki’s series maps each of the Eighty-Eight Temples around Shikoku’s historic 1,385km pilgrim route. A tradition central to Japanese Shingon Buddhism and its founder Kūkai (Kōbō Daishi), this enriching trail continues to be a sought pilgrimage today - either by those in search of quiet reflection, spiritual enlightenment, or simply, a culturally rich experience.
