名匠との旅 Travels with the Master - A series inspired directly from Binnie’s admiration for Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950). Binnie traveled to some of Yoshida’s most notable travel scenes outside of Japan, printing his own run of designs in tribute to Yoshida’s original counterpart images. Other notable examples in the series include Binnie’s/Yoshida’s ルガノ町 Lugano & ナイアガラ瀑布 Niagara Falls pieces.
Artist: Paul Binnie (1967-Present).

Paper blind-stamped “Binnie” to center of plate. Published 2007 (Initially commenced late 2004).

Notes: For グランドキャニオン Cloud Shadows, Grand Canyon, Binnie pays homage to Hiroshi Yoshida’s original print from 1925. Binnie’s print captures the air of Yoshida’s scene with a similar sense of perspective and masterful reflection of detail & shadow. However, it is very much an individual design - with over thirty colour impressions printed from fourteen different blocks.
グランドキャニオン Cloud Shadows, Grand Canyon was the first in Binnie’s 名匠との旅 Travels with the Master series. For this design, Binnie paid a final homage to Hiroshi Yoshida when his grandson, Tsukasa Yoshida (1949-Present), now leading the Yoshida studio, accepted Binnies blocks, printing the final run on his behalf.
