Over 380 years-old, the tree has grown through a fissure in a large granite boulder, becoming a National Natural Monument & designated National Treasure in 1923. Located outside Morioka District Court, Iwate prefecture, the tree is wonderfully lit at night - where it is an even greater beauty to behold!
