Notes: A great print by Fumio Kitaoka capturing the famous 五浦海岸 Izura Coast in rain & storm. A celebrated spot & inspiration for many modern Japanese artists; famous art scholar & co- founder of the 日本美術院 Nihon Bijutsu-in (The Japan Art Institute), 岡倉天心 Okakura Tenshin (1863–1913), designed a small hexagonal vermillion pavillion - 五浦六角堂 Izura Rokkakudo - as a place for meditation. We can just make out the pavilion behind the driving rain in Kitaoka’s print!
