Notes: In 1977, Ay-O created three prints entitled くじゃくの時間 (“Kujaku-no-Jikan”/”Peacock Time”)(A-C)(Raisonné No: #321- #323). Wishing to push the scope of his imagination to greater realms, Ay-O developed upon his 1976 work, 孔雀 (Peacock) (I & II (A&B))(#310-#311), in these larger, further developed pieces which “...pull the viewer’s spirit far beyond the sky.” in their beauty. An incredible piece of art capturing a flamboyant peacock in Ay-O’s 靉嘔 (Takao Iijima) brilliantly bold rainbow colour. For centuries, the peacocks’ stunning plumage has adorned prints, paintings, textiles, and ceramics - Ohara Koson (1877-1945) for example, a celebrated master, skillfully captured the majestic allure of peacocks in his work.
