Notes: Masao Ido’s print captures Marugame Castle (丸亀城), one of Japan’s twelve original castles that still retains its wooden keep. Built in 1597 by Ikoma Chikamasa, the castle is known for its towering stone walls, some of the highest in Japan. Perched on Kameyama Hill, a 60-meter man-made mound, the castle's elevated position and double moat system provided a strong defensive advantage during the Edo period. Ido’s depiction highlights the layered greenery and the imposing structure, a symbol of Kagawa Prefecture's feudal history and architectural ingenuity.
