Notes: 天守物語 (Tenshu Monogatari), or “The Tale of Himeji Castle,” was composed in 1951 by the acclaimed Japanese author Kyôka Izumi and first staged in Kabuki theatre in 1955. This haunting and tragic tale revolves around the forbidden love between Princess Tomihime, the spirit of Himeji Castle, and Zusyonosuke, a young warrior tasked with recovering a white falcon once captured by the princess. The story weaves together themes of love and fate as Zusyonosuke becomes entangled in a ghostly romance that transcends life and death. Set against the backdrop of Himeji Castle, it explores the eternal bond between the spirit of the princess and the castle itself.
