Notes: A fabulous print by Hiromitsu Takahashi titled 助六A (Sukeroku A), inspired by the kabuki play Sukeroku Yukari no Edo Zakura. The composition captures the bold and gallant Sukeroku, a swaggering hero celebrated for his loyalty and flair, posed dramatically as he grips a vivid wagasa. Dressed in a striking black kimono with vibrant blue hakama (袴) and colourful obi (帯), the play - known as The Flower of Edo - follows Sukeroku’s search for a stolen sword in the Yoshiwara red-light district, a tale filled with vibrant action, love, and honour set in Edo-period Japan.
