Notes: Midorogaike pond 深泥池 is one of Japan’s oldest natural ponds and is a storied wetland area shrouded in mystery & ghostly legend as one of the most paranormal locations in Kyoto. Designated a natural conservation monument in 1988 protecting the area’s ancient flora & fauna species which root back to the last ice age; Midorogaike is abundant in insect, plant, & aquatic life which thrive upon the warm temperate climate & shifting “floating islands” of decomposing organic material.
