Clifton Karhu - Kyoto Roofs - Japan (Large)
Title: Kyoto Roofs - Japan. Ed.15/25.
Artist: Clifton Karhu (1927-2007).
Signed & Dated: Titled, editioned, & signed in pencil to plate. 1966.
Medium: Woodblock Print.
Image Size: Approx: W: 66.00cm x H: 51.00cm. (Paper Size: W: 69.00cm x H: 54.00cm).
Condition: Very fine. Given its size and age - printed in 1966 -, this print remains in an incredibly fine condition. Well stored over the years, with strong provenance; colours remain vibrant with no fading, foxing, folds or creases to paper. Image face remains unblemished, with only impression from barren (swirls) evident from its printing. (Karhu appears to have used a slightly thinner paper at this time and consequently bleed-through is more noticeable verso too). Registration marks/inking to lower margin & corner. Please refer to photos. Contact for any further questions/photos/& condition report.
Notes: A rare example of Karhu’s finest work: not only due to its large size and notably small edition run - only 25 pieces! - but perhaps the earliest example of his all typically large, rooftop themed, prints (i.e Roofs, Roofs, Roofs (1968), Muromachi Roofs (1978), & Nishijin Roofs (1983) which followed).
